How has living in North Carolina
changed or inspired your work?
I write a lot about North Carolina and
use North Carolina settings in many of
my novels. Many characters in my
books are southern. I tend to write
about ordinary people who find
themselves in extraordinary
circumstances, who have to cope with
what life confronts them with."
He held numerous Music Director and Conductor posts and guest conducted extensively during that period, but also kept his writing aspirations alive. After retiring from conducting, Tom began to write seriously for publication. During the past decade, he has published five novels, several short stories, and occasional essays. He is currently working on his eighth novel, and now resides in New Bern, and is very active in local and statewide literary endeavors. Among his published works are: the very popular PEA ISLAND GOLD trilogy: SUNDAYS’ CHILD, HITLER’S JUDAS, and SONS OF THEIR FATHERS. MY KING THE PRESIDENT is also a big favorite, and LUCIFER’S CHILDREN promises to be as well.
Two other novels, ZENA’S LAW and 50 YEARS TO MIDNIGHT will appear soon, along with a collection of short stories: SHORT TALES AND TALL.
